Alfredo Tamburini immigrated to Canada from Rende, Calabria, in 1965, and has always had a passion for gardening. Like many Italian immigrants, his garden is brimming with luscious tomatoes, eggplants, zucchini and radicchio, to name a few. However, his most prized possession is his collection of fig trees.

What started as a hobby has blossomed into an impressive garden overflowing with over forty trees. Together, they yield hundreds, if not thousands, of sweet, succulent figs every season.

With great dedication, Alfredo begins his journey every year in March, unearthing the fig trees from their winter hibernation. He tenderly cares for them every morning and evening, and his family even jokes that he sings and talks to them!"We are all very fortunate and proud to enjoy such a plentiful harvest every summer" they say.

It is without doubt that Alfredo’s biggest joy is to share the rewards of his hard work and dedication with all of his friends and family, that is, to see them bite into a big, juicy fig!
