A beautiful Venetian white for summer sipping

By Marco Giovanetti

If you like wine like me, you will find nothing more refreshing than a glass of chilled white by your pool side or in your back terrace patio terrace during the summer season.

Luckily for us, the summer season has been warm and full of sunshine. These are the times where those Soaves, Vermentinos or Falanghinas show their best qualities. Un bicchiere di vino bianco per favore!! That’s what my wife tells me when she wants to have wine outside when it’s very warm.

The summer season is the perfect time to get initiated into white wines as well. I love to have a glass of well-chilled white while doing my supper preparations or I can build a whole meal around two or three white wines.

Here is an excellent suggestion for a Venetian white wine widely available at your nearby SAQ:

Bertani Due Uve 2018 (50% Sauvignon Blanc and 50% Pinot Grigio). SAQ #10269644, $15.80

Bertani is one of Veneto’s most important and influential wine producers. They craft a full range of classic wines of the Veneto and the company has enjoyed a reputation for quality from the start.

The wine idea known as Due Uve (“Two Grapes”), of which Due Uve White was the first wine to be made by Bertani, is the result of a creative combination of two grape varieties, chosen and blended in order to bring out the best in each other.

Due Uve Bianco brings together the elegance of Pinot Grigio with the very aromatic Sauvignon Blanc, thus creating a sum greater than its parts, a fusion of two of the world’s most famous grape varieties.

Vineyards are located in the Isonzo area, a high plateau descending gradually from the Collio and Carso hills to the Adriatic Sea, with soils composed of red clay and gravel.

Tropical citrus notes such as passion fruit and pineapple with a hint of green pepper and anis. Round and fruity with a lovely vibrant and cleansing finale. Highly recommended buy. Perfect as an aperitivo or with BBQ seafood.
